AMTD: Sole strategic partner of Hong Kong FinTech Week, working together to build “Smart city, Innovation Bay Area”

Hosted by InvestHK of the government of Hong Kong, jointly supported by Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Securities and Futures Commission, Insurance Authority, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) etc, AMTD Group as the sole strategic partner, “2018 Hong Kong FinTech Week” was taking place in Hong Kong and Shenzhen from 29th October to 2nd November 2018. FinTech Week attracted more than 8,000 senior executives and featuring over 200 of the world's top FinTech founders, investors, regulators, and academics, presenting the growing strengths of Hong Kong in the field of FinTech globally. Hong Kong FinTech Week is the world's first cross-border FinTech event.

The five-days long FinTech Week was unveiled on 29th with the event “AMTD Innovation Hub Tour “hosted by AMTD Group, to discuss the innovation and development of Fintech in Hong Kong together with the FinTech experts, industry investment leaders and education experts from globally, including Victor Lam, Government Chief Information Officer of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Prof. Philip Chan, Deputy President and Provost of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Rachel Freeman, Manager, FIG Advisory - Asia & Pacific of IFC, Soul Htite, Co-founder and former CTO of Lending Club, Founder and CEO of Dianrong, Prof. Wilson Tong, Director, AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business, Michael Wong, Associate Professor of Finance of City University of Hong Kong, Kwan Wing Keung, Assistant IT Director of the University of Hong Kong, Maggie Ng, Co-Founder & CEO of FinEX Asia, Norma Chu, Founder and CEO of DayDayCook, Irene Leung, Chief Operating Officer of i-CABLE Communications, Max Liu, Co-founder & CEO of EMQ etc.

In the afternoon of 29th October, “FinTech and Beyond “hosted by AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU, attracted many industry and academic experts, including Charles D'Haussy, Head of Fintech at InvestHK of the government of Hong Kong SAR, Dr Hungyi CHEN, Asia-Pacific Region Manager of Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance of University of Cambridge etc., to exchange opinions regarding the global trends and applications of FinTech innovation.

3) Hong Kong FinTech Week Kick-Off Ceremony

In the evening of 30th October, 2018 Hong Kong FinTech Week Kick-Off Ceremony held at HKEX, Charles Li, Chief Executive of HKEX and Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group were invited to attend and gave opening remarks to welcome all guests. “There’s great potential to develop FinTech and build smart city in Hong Kong, hoping that this cross-border FinTech event can play an important role for the FinTech development in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area” mentioned by Calvin Choi.

Form 31st October to 1st November, Main Conferences of Hong Kong Fintech Week was grandly opening, AMTD specially setup “AMTD Hub” at the centre area of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Hall, to showcase the development and achievements in the field of Fintech and new economy promoted by AMTD to all the guests and audiences.

Hong Feng shared the unique business model of Xiaomi and the start of developing financial services business. Hong Feng is optimistic about the development of FinTech and smart city in Hong Kong and mentioned “Xiaomi eyeing Hong Kong for FinTech expansion”.

31st October, AMTD Group established the Regional Bank + Strategic Cooperation Alliance in Hong Kong together with Zhongyuan Bank, Jiangxi Bank, Guangzhou Rural Commercial Bank and Bank of Qingdao. Inauguration ceremony held at the “Hong Kong Stage” of Hong Kong FinTech Week. 1st November, AMTD Group formally announced the establishment of its strategic partnership with Tiger Fintech in the areas of TMT investment banking. Calvin Choi, the Chairman and President of AMTD Group and Wu Tianhua, the founder of Tiger Fintech, confirmed on site for strategic partnership at the “Hong Kong Stage”. The strategic partnership between the two is widely believed to bring changes to generate better user experience for global capital markets clients and to further promote the upgrade of traditional financial services. Tiger Fintech recently announced to invest in AMTD Group, which enables puts AMTD to keep pace with the Group alongside other unicorns with market value over US$1 billion in Hong Kong.

9) GBAIG announced to establish Hong Kong International Headquarters, set up GBAIG (Overseas)

2nd November, activities of FinTech Week took place to Shenzhen, James Lau, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Government of Hong Kong SAR and Liu Daping, Deputy Director of the Development of the Shenzhen Municipal Government Financial Services Office gave welcoming speech, Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group was invited to give keynote speech and announced Greater Bay Area investment Group (GBAIG) will set headquarters in Hong Kong on behalf of Board Director and Senior Vice President of GBAIG, Chairman and President of GBAIG (Oversears). In the next three years, GBAIG will invest 20 billion RMB in Hong Kong, Macao and countries alongside the “Belt and Road” with GBAIG (Overseas) as core, to help Hong Kong build a “smart city” and promote investment exchange, international cooperation and development between the Greater Bay Area and the major international economies.
