President-Designate of HKUST Professor Wei Shyy visits AMTD to discuss long-term cooperation on developing innovative technology in the Greater Bay Area
On 2nd May, Professor Wei Shyy, President-Designate and Executive Vice-President & Provost of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) together with Professor Kar Yan Tam, Dean of School of Business and Management visited AMTD’s Hong Kong headquarters, met with Mr. Marcellus Wong, Vice Chairman of AMTD Group and Chairman of AMTD Foundation, Mr. Sin Yat-kin, Chief of Staff of AMTD Group and Vice Chairman of AMTD Foundation and Mr. Ros Lam, Chief Strategy Officer of AMTD Group. Two parties had profound discussions on the long-term partnership, especially on promoting the development of innovative technology and talent cultivation in the Greater Bay Area.
Marcellus Wong, Vice Chairman of AMTD Group and Chairman of AMTD Foundation, said that AMTD Group has always been committed to promoting technological development and talent cultivation in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as a leading global higher tertiary institute, is committed to promoting research on technology, boasting a world-renowned EMBA programme and BioTech teaching and research results. The Group hopes to work with HKUST to advance university-industry collaboration, to jointly support and incubate promising enterprises in the field of precision technology, BioTech, FinTech and Blockchain and to jointly promote the development of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area markets. Assuming office as the next President of HKUST in September 2018, Professor Wei Shyy, Executive Vice-President & Provost of HKUST said, as the Greater Bay Area has a promising future, HKUST will respond actively to the national development strategies by cultivating more FinTech talents in the area. Therefore, he looks forward to having further discussion on the long-term collaboration plan with AMTD to jointly enhance Hong Kong’s role in the Greater Bay Area and solidify Hong Kong’s status as the international financial center.
AMTD has always attached great importance to FinTech innovation and is committed to providing talent cultivation and financial consultancy services for the industry. In April 2018, AMTD Group, AMTD Foundation and Hong Kong Polytechnic University announced the establishment of the first industry-university collaborative FinTech Centre, “AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business” in Hong Kong. Apart from collaborating with local universities, AMTD Group co-established “University of Waterloo- AMTD Innovation Hub” with the University of Waterloo to jointly advance the Artificial Intelligence Project, improve Hong Kong’s competitiveness in innovative technology and lay the strong foundation for the long-term development of local FinTech industry.
