On 12th September, the launch ceremony of the highly anticipated annual Hong Kong Fintech Week was held officially. Hong Kong Fintech Week 2018, which was organized by InvestHK, jointly supported by HKMA, SFC, Insurance Authority and HKEx, cooperated with AMTD Group as an exclusive strategic partner, sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank and Citibank, partnered with Tencent in Fintech of the Greater Bay Area and contracted by Finnovasia, will be held in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 29th Oct to 1st Nov, and will also be moved to Shenzhen on 2nd Nov. Topics of the event this year include virtual banks, corporate blockchain, digital payment, AI, RegTech, Insurtech, Wealthtech and cyber security, etc. Regulatory bodies, investors, scholars and more than 200 founders of top Fintech companies worldwide will join this event together with some 8000 executives and professionals in both cities.

In the launch ceremony, Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, gave an opening speech which stated that the SAR Government has targeted Fintech as a key technology area to focus on. Fintech can assist Hong Kong to consolidate its leading position of an international financial centre and foster Hong Kong to be a competitive economy body. Hong Kong SAR Government is determined to make Hong Kong become a Fintech centre to conglomerate wealth.

Nelson Chow, the Chief Fintech Officer of the HKMA; Clara Chiu, the SFC's Director of Licensing and Head of Fintech unit and Intermediaries; Tony Chan, Associate Director of Policy and Development Division of Insurance Authority and Charles d’Haussy, Head of Fintech at InvestHK, also gave speeches in the event.
